Athanor takes place in the south of Italy in the 12th Century. You are playing as a Franciscan monk, sent by his Holy order in order to make an inquiry in an abbey where suspect events have aroused many fears. You will lead this inquiry in order to discover the mysteries lying within this abbey. Let your conscience be your guide and you may discover greater secrets that you could have thought of.
Playing through Athanor, you will have to type your orders such as :
Verb + Noun
(Example: Examine door, Search chest).
In some cases, you may be allowed to use more specific commands such as :
Examine left door.
However, do try to respect a few rules :
- Verb must be put in the infinitive form
- The typed noun must be in the singular
Some Basic languages are less powerful than others to analyze commands.
You will also have access to special commands :
- INVENT : display your inventory
- EXIT : shows the different ways out of the current view
- COMBINE or ASSEMBLE : this command allows you to combine an item with another one in order to create a new one
(Example: combine rope1 rope2 bucket)

You can also you use :
- N or NORTH for GO NORTH
- S or SOUTH for GO SOUTH

- W or WEST for GO WEST
Material clues occupy a major role in Athanor.
Athanor contains the following clues :
- 7 tile clues
- 1 tile plan
- 1 special clue with a numeric code
- 1 final clue
To play the game, download the ZIP file and unzip the game.
The D64 file could be transfered to a real floppy disk and played on a Commodore Plus 4.
If you want to play it on your PC/Mac you can use an emulator like YAPE.
